RELOCATIONS FOR DISPLACED PERSONS

The Youth and Community Services division, working in conjunction with the City of Bristol's Corporation Counsel, Building Department, Fire Marshall's Office and the Bristol-Burlington Health District, shall determine the needs of displaced tenants for relocation assistance due to condemnation of property. Relocation will be carried out in accordance with the Connecticut Uniform Relocation Assistant Act.

Connecticut General Statutes Section 8-266 states that the purpose of the URAA “is to establish a uniform policy for the fair and equitable treatment of persons displaced by …code enforcement activities…” particularly the condemnation of property for building, housing, or health enforcement activities. A lien is placed upon the condemned property by the City of Bristol in order to recoup, with interest, the cost of the relocation benefits.

Services include: 

  1. Assisting tenants in completing relocation application
  2. Meeting with tenants to determine eligibility 
  3. Paying our allowable relocation funds to eligible tenants 
  4. Placing a lien on all real property in the community, which is owned by the landlord of the persons were displaced for costs resulting from the relocation expenses
