City of Bristol Assessor is Awarded Assessor of the Year Award

At the fall meeting of the Connecticut Association of Assessing Officers, Inc. (CAAO), Thomas DeNoto, City of Bristol Assessor, was recognized and received the Assessor of the Year award. This is the first time since 1971 that the City of Bristol Assessor has received this recognition.

The role of an assessor is to discover, list and value all the property within a town, including exempt and taxable real estate, personal property and motor vehicles.

Tom is a lifelong Bristol resident and has been Bristol’s Assessor for the past 15 years. He was previously employed as the Newtown Assessor and Manchester Deputy Assessor. Tom served as the CAAO President from 2020 through 2022, President Elect from 2018 through 2020, is a member of their Education committee and past Co-Chairman of their Legislative and By-Laws committees. Tom has also served as president of the Hartford Area Assessors Association, is a member of the CT Chapter of the International Association of Assessing Officers and is an affiliated member of the Appraisal Institute since 1995. Tom is also proud to be an active member and volunteer with the St. Francis de Sales youth group “Teens in Action”.  He and his wife, Christine, are happily married for 30 years and he is the proud father of three children Alexandra, Devon and Eric.

“I was completely taken by surprise when I received this award from my peers. Sometimes you run on auto pilot and when you receive this recognition you look back on the past year events which make you realize what this type of appreciation means. I am very proud and humbled to be among the great assessors of this state and listed within the company of the other past Assessors of the Year award recipients.”  - Thomas DeNoto, City of Bristol Assessor

“In my experience over the past two years, Tom has approached his work with a smile and a can-do attitude. His transparency is valued in the assessment process and his creativity and determination to educate the public with a video explaining the 2022 revaluation process is a model that all communities should emulate. I appreciate Tom and feel this award is very well timed and deserved.” - Mayor Jeffrey Caggiano, City of Bristol
