Absentee Ballots

Qualifications

An elector may vote by absentee ballot for one of the following reasons:

  • Absence from the town 
  • Active service in the U.S. Armed Forces
  • Sickness or Physical disability
  • Religious tenets which forbid secular activity on election, primary, or referendum day
  • Service as an election official at a polling place other than the official’s place of voting

Application

Absentee ballot applications can be obtained by calling the Town Clerk’s Office at (860) 584-6200 ext. 0, mailing the absentee ballot application, or stopping into the office during normal business hours. The last day to request an absentee ballot is the day before the election. You must be a registered and active voter in Bristol in order to be eligible to vote via an absentee ballot.

  • Apply online for an absentee ballot application on the Connecticut Secretary of the State's online portal. The portal will open 45 days prior to the November election date. 
  • Military personnel and persons temporarily living overseas may submit a Federal Post Card Application to register and apply for an absentee ballot.

You must return your completed absentee ballot application to the town clerk in the town in which you are a registered voter in Connecticut. The completed absentee ballot application can be mailed to: Town & City Clerk, P.O. Box 114, Bristol, CT 06011-0114.

Permanent Absentee Ballots
Voters with permanent disabilities may be eligible for permanent absentee ballot status. The voter must file an application and a doctor’s certificate stating they have a permanent disability and are unable to appear at the polls. Contact the Town Clerk’s office for further details.
