Purpose

The Bristol Conservation Commission serves as the city’s Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Agency. The specific powers and duties entrusted to conservation commissions are set forth in Section 7-131a of the Connecticut General Statutes.

In its role as the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Agency, the Commission has the following responsibilities, as set forth in Chapter 440 of the Connecticut General Statutes:

  • To adopt, amend, and administer the city’s Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Regulations
  • To hear, consider, and decide upon applications for regulated activities involving inland wetlands and watercourses
  • To hear, consider, and decide upon petitions for changes in the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Regulations
  • To establish, change, or repeal boundaries of inland wetlands and watercourses as shown on the Wetlands Map
  • To take appropriate actions to enforce the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Regulations and conditions of permits
  • To determine whether proposed activities are exempt from, or subject to, the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Regulations
